This one’s close to my heart. When Priyal came to me, Surf & Yoga was still just an idea no website, no audience, no online presence. Just a beautiful patch of Sri Lanka’s south coast in Mirissa and a vision for a surf and yoga retreat. We started from absolute zero, and that’s what makes this project the one I’m proudest of.
Building the foundation
I built the entire website from the ground up on WordPress a fresh, custom build designed to make people feel the place before they’d even booked. Mirissa sells itself with palm trees, golden crescent beaches, and dreamy waves, so the site had to carry that feeling through every page: the surf programs, the yoga classes, the camp, the packages. I set up the full structure booking flow, package pages, team profiles, FAQs, a blog and optimised all of it for SEO from the start so the right people could actually find it.
The goal wasn’t just a pretty website. It was lead generation and bookings. So every page was built with intent: clear calls to action, a smooth path to the booking system, and content structured to rank for the terms surfers and yogis were searching for. On the technical side I handled responsive design, speed optimisation, security, and the plugin setup that kept everything running smoothly as traffic grew.
Growing the audience
A website is only half the story. Once we were live, I took on the digital marketing managing social media content across Instagram and Facebook, planning the content calendar, and running the ad campaigns that brought in bookings month after month. I developed the content strategy, wrote and scheduled posts, and ran targeted Google and Meta ad campaigns aimed at travellers looking for exactly this kind of escape. Over time, that steady mix of organic content and paid campaigns built a genuine community around the brand.
The payoff
The results speak louder than anything I could write. What began as a single camp in Mirissa has grown into an international surf and yoga brand, with retreats now running across Sri Lanka (Mirissa, Arugam Bay, Hiriketiya), Bali (Canggu, Uluwatu, Lombok), the Maldives, Portugal, Fuerteventura, Siargao, Nicaragua, and Brazil. Watching a business I helped launch from nothing expand across the globe has been the most rewarding experience of my career.
That’s the kind of work I love most being there from the first line of code, staying on for the long game, and helping a passionate founder turn a single idea into something that reaches the whole world.
